The Birth: When a former policeman from the planet Thanagar fled to earth with his wife, the couple became destined to fight for justice on their newly adopted planet as Hawkman and Hawkwoman. The couple's canonical appearance was in Part One of the 4 part mini-series "The Shadow War of Hawkman" (August 1985) after Tony Isabella, Richard Howell and Alfredo Alcala helped in revamping the title.

The Alter Egos: Hawkman's and Hawkwoman's real names are Katar Hol and Shayera respactively but in their human identities they parade about as Carter and Shiera Hall. Both of them work in the City Museum.

The Legend: The Thanagarians had invaded Earth as spies in human guises with prominent professions. They used a mind control device called the Absorbascon which could read a man's mind on those earthlings who they needed to bend to their will. The Thanagarians needed proper control of the inhabitants and the situation before they could invade the planet.
When Thanagar's first and finest police officer, Katar Hol learned of this invasion, he along with his wife Shayera stood against the invaders. The couple who were once Thanagar's finest heroes were now the planet's deadliest outlaws.
Hawkman and Hawkwoman fought against their fellow Thanagarians and prevented the invasion. They have helped the police in several cases and are also members of the Justice League.
Their powers include flight as well as fantastic healing ability. Their helmets have been cybernetically enhanced, enabling them to do a variety of functions including beaming themselves to any destination with the relativity beam system.
