File 68 The Shocker

The Birth: A criminal mastermind and technical genius, Herman Schultz designed his super suit for the sole purpose of looting and getting rich quick.
His first appearance was in Amazing Spider-Man #46, 1966.

The Alter Ego: Unlike most of the super villains, the Shocker is not one who's interested in worldwide domination neither is he one of those twisted, totally psychotic villains whose main goal is to destroy Spider-Man. Herman was mainly a greedy man, and this greed turned him to the life of crime. He is also a technical genius and designed the suit and weaponery himself.

The Legend: Right from the time the Shocker crashed the scene he has been laughed at by all, right from the cops and villains to Spidey. He's just a burglar and occasional mercenary with a costume and a gimmick. Herman is a competent street fighter and experienced thief, the super suit helps him to get a lot more than he would otherwise be able to snatch.
The Shocker's foam-lined, synthetic fabric costume absorbs all vibrations and establishes a vibrational shield that deflects normal blows and allows him to slip from almost any grasp. His suit's vibro-shock units trigger a pump-action compressed air mechanism that releases a series of rapid-succession, high-pressure air blasts through his gauntlets. Thrown from a distance, the resultant impacts can easily crumble solid concrete and severely damage the human body. Even the She-Hulk's been stunned by his vibro-blasters, though she overcame him with the aid of Hawkeye.
The Shocker's deeds are seldom truly despicable, but he has attempted some pretty impressive crimes: one of his more ambitiously imaginative efforts was a multi-million extortion scam in which he threatened to sever key junctions beneath New York City's streets, spelling out his name in the city's selectively extinguished lights.
He has also wreaked havoc on the Stock Exchange. He threatened a broker who played the market according to his instructions and left a million bucks richer.
The Shocker has had various criminal allies, including his fellow Spidey-foes and the Masters of Evil, but few have ever held him in esteem. When the Shocker appeares on a scence, snide comments are generally passed - like teasing him with the name Quilt Man and such. Spider-Man has defeated the Shocker many times, but each time the Shocker comes back for a rematch.
