The Birth: Apparently, Luthor (See Lex Luthor) could not buy off Superman (See Superman)by putting him on his payroll, so he treid to create a Superman clone - his very own Superman that would follow his orders without question. The result of this experiment was Bizarro: an imperfect doppleganger of Superman. Bizarro's canonical fisrt appearance was way back in the highly acclaimed mini-series Man Of Steel #5, 1986.
The Alter Ego: Bizarro was an imperfect clone of Superman and he did have his mind and memories. But the thoughts were confused and distorted. From his perspective he thought himself to be the real Superman and therefore also Clark Kent.
The Legend: When Luthor realized that Superman was too
idealistic to give his services for hire, he engineered the escape of
a genetist; Dr. Teng; from mainland China and had him create an
artificial being in the likeness of Superman. But Dr. Teng had worked
on the assumption that Supes was human, creating a miscalculation in
the experiment thereby producing a Bizarre clone of him. As soon as
the clone was given life it fell to the ground and it's skin started
hardening.
When Bizarro escaped, he fought Krypton's Last Son, thinking
him to be an imposter. Bizarro's body was decaying, his skin
flaking off. Superman vowed never to take a life, but during his
sciffle with the clone one of his punches literally knocked the
stuffing out of Bizarro. The only good that it did was the flakes from
it's body gave Lois' sister,
(See Lois Lane) Lucy her eyesight back.
Later on, when Lex Luthor's cloned body was withering away, he was bent on finding a cure for his disease. His assistant, Sidney Happersen was bent on reviving Dr. Teng's failed experiment so as to track down his failure and thereby determine a cure. As planned, Happersen recreated the experiment and Bizarro was born again. He was as disoriented, confused and imperfect as he was the last time he was created. Bizarro kidnapped Lois and kept creating situations where he would have to save her so as to get her approval. Superman fought Bizarro but Lois was instumental in trapping the creature. Once caught, Luthor and Happersen did their best to isolate the cure but the clone, who knew he was dying used his last ounce of strength to destroy the cure that Luthor had found.
