The Birth: When a Tawky Tawny doll came to life and revealed to Mary Broomfield the identity of her brother, he also told her that she could share in her brother's secret just by saying the word "Shazam". When Mary uttered the word she was no longer a kid but an adult of immense power - she was Mary Marvel!!

Her first appearance was in The Power Of Shazam #4 (June, 1995).

The Alter Ego: Mary Marvel's real name is Mary Batson. Her her parents were murdered when she was too young to remember them. She was then separated from her brother and adopted by the Bromfields. The rich family gave her their own surname as she became their daughter.
Mary also harboured a crush on the young sports hero, Freddy Freeman.

The Legend: When Mary Batson became Mary Marvel her life changed forever. She stood with her brother, Captain Marvel, helping him to ward off evil from Fawcett City. Later, when Freddy Freeman was injured by Captain Nazi, Mary and Billy agreed to share their powers with him so that he could become Cap Jr.

Mary fought against Madame Libertine, a grand-niece of Captain Nazi when she arrived in town to spread terror. She also helped to defeat Blaze and Black Adam when the they had kidnapped Shazam. With the help of Cap, Freddy, Bullet Man, Dudlee, Tawky Tawny and Ibis she got hold of the Seven Deadly Sins that were released by Blaze and imprisoned them in their statues.

Like her brother, she has immense strength and invulnerability and also has the power of flight. She also possesses, like Cap, the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury, which also enables flight. And since she draws on the same power as Cap, her power is reduced when any other member of the Marvel family uses the power.
