The Birth: A long time ago when teenage Billy Batson saw his father's spirit at an alleyway he went to investigate it further. And he was led to Shazam, a powerful wizard who granted Billy fantastic super-powers that transformed him into one of the mightiest mortals of the world. By speaking out the name of the wizard aloud , Billy Batson became the powerful Captain Marvel.

Captin Marvel's first appearance was in Whiz Comics #1 (February, 1940). But when Jerry Ordway revamped the Shazam line, Cap made his canonical debut in Power Of Shazam Graphic Novel.

The Alter Ego: Billy's real name is William Batson. He stays by himself in an appartment since his parents were murdered by the evil Black Adam. Billy and his sister got separated after the demise of their parents and his sister went to stay with the Broomfields. Billy's only guardian was the school custodian, Mr. Dudlee. To support himself, Billy got a job as a radio jockey at Station WHIZ and soon became a celebrity.

The Legend: Whenever Billy speaks the name of the wizard, Shazam aloud, he is transformed into a super powered adult name Captain Marvel. And just as Batman is the protector of Gotham and Superman looks after Metropolis, Captain Marvel oversees Fawcett City.
Early in his career, Billy chose to split his power among himself, his sister Mary, and friend,Freddy Freeman. Together, as Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel, and Captain Marvel Jr., the Marvel family protected Fawcett City and Earth from numerous threats.
Cap helped to capture the Seven Deadly Sins when they were released by Blaze. He also fought against Mr. Mind when he detonated an atomic bomb in the neighbouring Fairfield which killed thousands.
One of Captain Marvel's deadliest enemy has been Black Adam, a being with powers similar to that of Cap. Cap has defeated him a number of times when he returned to take his place.

Captain Marvel possessesthe wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury, which also enables flight. But if any other member of the Marvel family draws on the power, his power is reduced proportionately.
